advocacy
Alyssa has collaborated with local governments to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. This has included the installation of visible crosswalks, Accessible Pedestrian Signals, improved signage and residential building modifications. At the city level she has participated in projects with the NYC Department of Transportation in developing tactile guideways and accessible bus service ticketing. She has also provided legal testimony for families in pursuit of fair educational practices, and served as a family advocate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings.
Her promotion of accessibility in the arts has included braille transcription for gallery exhibitions, multimedia development for program materials, and orientation guides. She has also trained with Detour Company Theatre (Phoenix, AZ) and AXIS Dance Company (San Francisco, CA) in interabled teaching and dance-making.
